Julian Schuster, the 40-year-old coach, has been handed a new contract by Freiburg in return for his excellent performances last season.

Freiburg sporting director Jochen Saier has confirmed a contract extension with 40-year-old coach Julian Schuster, but the length of the new deal has not been disclosed.

‘Julian and his team have been incredibly impressive over the last season,’ said Saier. ‘Julian brings great expertise and character to the club. The development of the team is clearly going in the right direction and there is a real sense of togetherness. It just feels right, which is why we are delighted to extend his contract.’
“This club and this region means a lot to me,” Schuster added. “We’ve just had a great year and achieved a lot of good things, not just last place in the table. I’m excited to continue developing the team with the coaching staff and the backroom staff.”
Schuster’s second season in charge will start with a trip to Sportfreunde Lotte in the DFB Cup first round on Saturday 16 August before Freiburg host Augsburg on the Bundesliga’s opening matchday on Saturday, 23 August.
