The WonderDweeb Trilogy
The WonderDweeb Trilogy is a low(no) budget, low(no) class, yet hilarious series of movies that spoofs the sci-fi genre in ways that Mel Brooks could only dream of doing; Or, at least, that is the description that has been sitting on the web for the last 7 or 8 years.
The WonderDweeb Trilogy was a set of films we made in high school where we cast all the Star Wars roles with various high school geeks (including ourselves, especially since we were the ones orchestrating the thing), gave each scene a beginning and end point, and let the improv go from there. In limited showings at our hometown and at select colleges in the Midwest United States, it received very good reviews from very drunk people. When I started my video game site BieberSoft in 1998 I took a new look at the movies and wanted to make some games based on them. I also decided to post the movies on the site. Although the format was horrible (very compressed real media) they got lots of good feedback. Actually, I posted the statistic that more people downloaded those movies than watched Kevin Costner’s The Postman- the box office flop of the day. Now I am older and wiser and have a new hobby – digital video and DVD making. Since I now have the software/know-how to add special effects such as lightsabers, lasers, spaceships, etc., naturally I thought about taking another look at these films. Could I clean these up and finally make them into what I originally envisioned on DVD? The answer is yes, I could; and maybe I will. Given the number of people in the films and the Star Wars copyright/trademark infringements I would be using; I don’t think the eventual DVD would see a release anywhere beyond giving a copy of each of those involved, and then maybe putting a copy on YouTube or something like that. So unfortunately it is not my top priority. I do enjoy the process of restoring the old VHS video and adding the new special effects, so I suppose I will finish it eventually. The Project
I started this project using Pinnacle Studio Plus 9. I wholeheartedly do not recommend it. In looking at reviews of their products, past and present I have found that buying software from Pinnacle is essentially paying to do a beta test. Pinnacle would work great, if it worked. Well, I have already started in Pinnacle and have learned the rain dances you have to do to make it work so I will restore the video and save the video files using Pinnacle. Once I have the restored video files, I am going to build the DVD using Sony Vegas DVD, which is a complete breath of fresh air after dealing with Pinnacle.
